Install

Four taps, no computer

Tap Download the APK above, then open the file — your browser's notification, or Files → Downloads.
If Android asks, allow Install unknown apps for whichever app is opening it (usually your browser). On Android 8–9 that is the single switch your phone shows; on newer versions it is underneath Settings → Apps → Special access.
Play Protect may say it hasn't seen this app before. Choose Install anyway — an app from outside the Play Store always gets that warning. Nothing is sent anywhere: no analytics, no accounts, no tracking.
Open MODDYS World Radio. Later versions install straight over this one and your favourites stay.

If it refuses to install

Your Android is older than 8.0

The APK itself declares Android 8.0 as the minimum, so the installer refuses below it — Play Protect will not let you talk it round, and there is nothing on this page that can. The website runs in any browser on the same device, station list and all: just use the radio here.

Version compatibility, in one line: Android 8.0 (2017) and newer can install the app; it is tuned for Android 11 (2020) and newer. Below the tuned-for version the app tells you once at first launch which part is likely to misbehave — the device's own System WebView, not the app — and the Check panel in the player reports what that device can actually play, with a copy button for a bug report.

iOS 15+ · tuned for 18+

Same app as the Android one: background playback, lock-screen controls, the draggable player, the visualiser, light mode and the check panel.

Route 1 · nothing to install, works today

Add it to your Home Screen from Safari

Open moddys.net in Safari (not Chrome — only Safari can add to the Home Screen on iPhone and iPad).
Tap the Share button — the square with the arrow, in the toolbar.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Launch it from the new icon: full screen, its own icon, no browser bars.

What you get: the whole station list, and iOS keeps the audio playing when you switch apps or lock the screen.
What you don't: the lock-screen play/pause card and the notification — those come from the app itself, not from the web page.

Route 2 · with a computer · the reliable one

Sideload the .ipa with Sideloadly

On the iPhone or iPad, download the .ipa from this page and leave it in Files → Downloads.
On a Windows PC or a Mac, install Sideloadly from sideloadly.io. On Windows it also wants the web versions of iTunes and iCloud, which the Sideloadly page links to.
Connect the iPhone by cable and trust the computer if it asks.
Drag the .ipa into Sideloadly, type your Apple ID, press Start. Sideloadly does the signing — this is why the .ipa here does not need to be signed before you download it.
On the iPhone: Settings → General → VPN & Device Management, tap your Apple ID under Developer App, and choose Trust. Then open the app.

A free Apple ID signs it for 7 days — after that the app stops opening and you run Sideloadly again (about a minute, and your favourites are kept). A paid Apple Developer account ($99/year) signs it for a year, which is the same account you'd need for TestFlight or the App Store.

Route 3 · no computer at all

Sign it on the phone with an on-device signer

In Safari, get a signer app — Feather, ESign and similar do the same job — and install it.
Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management, find the profile the signer installed, and tap Trust. The signer will not open until you do.
Download the .ipa from this page and keep it in Files.
Open the signer, import the .ipa from Files (or paste its link), and tap Install.

Worth knowing before you use this route. These tools install your app with somebody else's signing certificate. Apple revokes those certificates regularly, and when one is revoked every app signed with it stops opening until a new certificate turns up. You are also trusting the signer with whatever you put through it. That is a fair trade for a lot of people and a bad one for some — it is your call, and Route 1 asks nothing of you at all.

And one more, if your device is old enough to have it: TrollStore installs an .ipa permanently — no computer, no 7-day timer, no certificate to be revoked. It works on iOS 14.0–16.6.1 and 17.0, and cannot work outside those versions. If your About screen says one of those, it is worth the twenty minutes.

.ipa files here are unsigned. They contain the finished app and nothing else — by design. iOS will not install an app that Apple has not signed, and the signing is what Routes 2 and 3 add, using your Apple ID or the signer's certificate.

Version compatibility

Both apps declare the oldest version they install on, and the version they are tuned for. Both numbers live in one file inside each app, and this page reads the same ones.

The Check panel in the app is the real answer for any device: it reports the version of the engine that actually plays the streams, which formats that engine can decode, and how many of the 47,994 stations it can play — with a copy button, so a bug report can be a paste.
